Posted October 24, 2018 10:08:24If you have a Mac or a Windows laptop with a Windows 10 installation, you might want to turn it into a dedicated server.
The most basic way to do this is to install Windows Server 2016 or Windows Server 2019 on the server and then add a virtual machine to it.
You can do this using the Hyper-V Manager, which is available for Mac and Windows.
In this article, we will look at how to install the Windows Server virtual machine on a Mac.
First, make sure you have Hyper-Vs installed.
If you don’t, you can download it from the Microsoft site.
Then, open the HyperV Manager and select the Windows server virtual machine.
From the left side menu, click Manage Virtual Machines.
Under the virtual machine that you want to install, click the Add button and select Hyper-v.
On the Next button, click Next, and then click Next.
In the Windows Hyper-VM Management window, you should see an option to add a server.
Select the server that you just added and click Next to add the virtual machines.
You will now see a list of the virtual servers that you have added and the virtual hosts that you can run them on.
In this screenshot, you see the virtual server that I added.
You should see the Hyper V server at the top right of the screen.
Click Add virtual server.
On the Next page, click Add virtual hosts.
On this page, select the Hyper Hosts tab and then select the server you added.
Click Next.
On Next, click OK.
On Next, select Next.
The virtual servers should now be listed.
If they aren’t listed yet, click On Next to list them.
Now that you see that the server is listed, click on Next to start adding the virtual host.
The first virtual host that you add is called vCenter.
Click the + icon next to the name of the server, and click Add.
In order to add new hosts, you must first add the VMs to the VM list.
To do this, click Start, click Control Panel, and select VMs.
Select VMs and then Add New.
On this page you can select the new hosts that are added.
You should see that your newly added hosts have the name vCenter-Client-2-10-vcenter-server.
Click OK to add them to the list of hosts.
After you add hosts, Windows should show a message that says, “This VM is running Hyper- v. If it is not running, click ‘Run’ to start the server.”
You can now launch the VM to view its running status.
On Windows, the default settings should be working for a standard Windows Server installation.
However, on some Macs, the startup time might be slower than Windows.
This might happen because Hyper-visors and virtual machine drivers may be different.
On a Mac, you will need to check the Hypervisor configuration of the Hyper VM by running the following command: /vmstat -v vmname The Hyper-vm service is installed on the virtual computer and should show the status of the VM as shown in the screenshot.
On some Mac systems, this service might not be available.
If this is the case, you may need to update the driver to support the new virtual machine type.
Once you have installed the Windows virtual machine, you need to change the user password.
To change the password, open System Preferences and click Accounts and Information.
You need to click on Users and then on Computers to change your default password.
Now, to restart the Mac, type the following in Terminal:su and hit enter:sudo /Applications/Microsoft-Windows-10.5-Server-Installer.app/Contents/MacOS/System.appUserName:YourUsernamePassword:YourPasswordFor more information about the installation process, read How to install an application from a USB stick or USB flash drive.
