A woman has died after she and her newborn daughter were found trapped in a house fire in North Carolina, police said.
Officers responded to a home in the town of Greenbrier early Saturday, said Durham Police Chief Keith Loeffler.
A woman and her 2-year-old child were inside the home, when the house caught on fire, police spokeswoman Debra Brown said.
The child, who was unharmed, was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead, she said.
Loefflers department said that the mother and her infant daughter were in the house for about two hours.
They were found by a firefighter about 10:20 a.m.
(1100 GMT) and were taken to the hospital, Brown said in a statement.
The mother, who has not been identified, was being held on $250,000 bond.
